Film Transcript
When I was younger, my mum, my sibling and I lived in the flat next to my grandpa. He was a bean farmer and a horseman. I spent a lot of my time on his farm. There were animals everywhere, but the horses were my favourite. I felt calm and safe around them. I loved helping to feed them, brush them, and just be near them. The horses taught me patience, trust, and that I could do more than I thought.
As an adult, when my anxiety got stronger, I realised how much I still needed that calm. That's why coming to the hub farm has been so important for me. The animals have helped me feel safe, calm and steady. They help me with my anxiety and my cerebral palsy. Being around them makes me feel stronger, more confident and happy. The animals don't judge me. They take me as I am. They help me be the best version of myself.
This film is about my life with animals: how they help me, how they care for me and how they make me feel that I belong.
Now you've got your lipstick on. Oh no, I don't need lipstick. Goldie, this is Polly who's coming up — she is a thoroughbred in foal to Wombleland. Hey, mama. Hey, darling. I have a really good connection with her and she is such a beautiful mare. Yeah, she doesn't want to — she just wants to get out.
Horses really help my anxiety and my cerebral palsy. I find I just really have a good connection with them. Horses have really good memory; if you abuse them, it takes a long time to earn their trust again. So it kind of feels like horses run in my blood.
So this is Scarlet. She was born on the 30th of December and she is a foal. And this is Marian. She is the mother of Scarlet. You wouldn't think Scarlet was born as an AI baby. And this is Mum Marian. She's beautiful coming down. Come on. And this is Scarlet. Hey, darling girl. They usually lie down when they're growing — they like to lie in the sun. Hey, baby. You're a spoiled thing, aren't you?
Scarlet was born through AI — artificial insemination. They had to find the semen from a stallion and choose a good one. See her, and 11 months later you get one of these. You want to hop up? Come on. Come on up. Up. Come on. Oh, you're lazy. She's being so lazy. Get up there. Mum, that is Mum. You watch me. I'm not prepared. Fish.
And yeah, she is so friendly. The animals don't judge me. They take me as I am. They help me be the best version of myself. This film is about my life with animals: how they help me, how they care for me and how they make me feel that I belong.
Now, congratulations. You want to have some other good news — your zucchini got in second place. Oh, cool. And yeah, having a beautiful miniature horse like Goldie, you have a good time. She is one of the best horses in the world. Don't you want some carrots, sir? Give me some carrots.
