Film Transcript

My life is here in this house. I grew up in this house. It's where I can be myself—my family, home. And now I have to let go. My house is getting sold. My parents are getting older. They can't care for me anymore.

I love my parents. I want to stay with them, but I know I can't. I feel a little scared because I don't know where I am going.

Max has spent his life in the family home surrounded by the love of his parents, Maria and Alfredo—a place that's familiar, warm, full of memories. But as the years have gently gathered around them, an unspoken question has begun to take form, one they have carried in their hearts for so long, now impossible to ignore: have they held on too tightly for too long? Have they given him everything except the chance to stand on his own?

I don't want to leave this house. I don't want to say goodbye. I won't just stay here forever. Their greatest worry is whether he will be ready to face a world beyond the safety they've so carefully built. And when he does, will there be someone there to guide him and care for him as much as they do? In loving him so deeply, they wonder if they may also have sheltered him from the very life he now must learn to live.

I am sad. We think of living without Mum; she's not dead. Sometimes it makes me cry.

Having a daughter with a disability, you understand all the challenges from the moment you hold their tiny hand. You make a promise to protect and cherish them no matter what. They are your joy, transforming your world into wonder and lots of responsibility. And as you get older, you feel the quiet fear of the unknown. Your heart aches at the thought of them facing a world without you. How can you prepare them for that day? How do you hold on to hope that they'll stay strong, resilient, and filled with love? You pray from your heart that wherever life leads them, they know they're loved beyond measure, and your heart stays with them in every breath.

I love my parents so much. I will visit them, and the emotion spoke a thousand words that day. I can only imagine how it must have felt to watch a part of you slip away, leaving behind a lifetime of love and moments that once filled those walls. The house may be sold, but it leaves behind a silent reminder of a life filled with love and the moments that made it all so meaningful.

And now it's my time—time to be strong, to be brave. I have to make new memories now. We, his family and caregivers, will support him with reassurance, love, and patience every step of the way.

When is the right time? There's no perfect moment. It varies for every family. No ideal time exists. You just hope your son or daughter is loved and spends their life filled with joy.
