About this Short Film

Chosen (Sam Majamanda, Malawi, 2020) is a short film presented in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival. The film examines themes of achievement, determination and how perception shapes the lives of children and teenagers with congenital and physical disabilities. It brings attention to school life, mobility and the individual viewpoints that influence how abilities are seen. Quiet and direct, Chosen invites audiences to think about the everyday realities and hopes of young people who use wheelchairs and face physical barriers. As part of our programme, it contributes to a broader conversation about inclusion, agency and the many ways people demonstrate resilience.
