The Dream (Warragul Regional College, Australia, 2023) explores mental health through the viewpoint of young people. Touching on ADHD, OCD, anxiety and depression, the film looks at issues of isolation, stigma, prejudice and stereotypes in school life. It raises questions about how we see and support individuals who struggle, and what help can look like for teenagers navigating mental illness. Quiet and thoughtful, The Dream invites audiences to consider different perspectives on perception and wellbeing without offering easy answers. Included in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival, it contributes to conversations about inclusion, understanding and the strengths people show despite challenge.
감자 Hey honey, it's time for dinner. You haven't eaten all day. I'm not hungry right now. Okay? I made your favourite. It'll be on the table when you're ready. Okay then. Cool. Happy? And you dad? That's good. Motorloans. The usual. And how was your day today, hon? It was okay. It wasn't that interesting. I saw you rearranged your room today. Why's that? It just makes more sense to me. I'm going to bed early. Dad? You haven't even touched your dinner. Hon? I'm really worried about her. What are we going to do? There's a problem. She'll come to us. Don't stress. She'll be okay. Open your eyes. And run. I'm going to bed. I'm here to help you figure this out. But what happens if I do have a hidden disability? What will happen to me? People are going to treat me differently. I'm too afraid to ask for help. The best thing you can do is ask for help first. Please take my hand. We can figure this out together. I can let the darkness go. I can let the darkness go.
