About this Short Film
Khumbo Langa (My Desire), directed by Sellina Dumbula (Malawi, 2024), is a short film included in our Focus on Ability programme. Rather than offering a single story, the film explores themes around employment, everyday prejudice and the stigma people with disability can face. It pays attention to workplace roles such as mechanic and tailor, and to experiences like bullying, exploitation and the search for meaningful work. Presented with sensitivity, Khumbo Langa invites audiences to consider ability, resilience and community. It also reflects young adult perspectives on ambition and belonging. This is a thoughtful addition to the festival's celebration of diverse talents.
