About this Short Film
Yohanes Melaku’s Tesfa (Ethiopia, 2023) examines life after conflict through themes of physical disability, trauma and recovery. The short film invites audiences to consider the everyday realities faced by amputees and wheelchair users, and the pressures and possibilities of work and independence for young adults living with PTSD. It is a quiet, human study rather than a spectacle, offering space for reflection on resilience, dignity and the ways people rebuild their lives. Presented in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival, Tesfa sits alongside other films that celebrate ability, challenge assumptions and broaden our understanding of diverse experiences.
