About this Short Film
Space Out, directed by Hayley Marrs (Australia, 2024), is an adult, anime-influenced short that explores daydreaming, perception and time through a distinctive visual language. The film reflects on individual viewpoint and the ways cognitive processing disability and neurofibromatosis shape everyday experience. It does not prescribe answers, but invites audiences to sit with moments of escape, surprise and shifting awareness. Visually and emotionally it complements our Focus on Ability programme by highlighting different ways of perceiving the world. Recommended for mature audiences, Space Out prompts quiet reflection on how we notice time, how we inhabit our inner lives, and how film can open up new perspectives.
