About this Short Film
The Other Side (Joseph Tebandeke, Uganda, 2021) is a short film included in our Focus on Ability programme. It examines themes around physical and medical disability, including polio, and the everyday challenges and achievements people face. Viewers will find threads of dance, farming, employment and travel alongside issues of illness, Covid, stigma and prejudice. The film offers a humane, sometimes confronting look at motivation and resilience, asking how societies see and support adults with disabilities. It sits comfortably in our festival’s aim to celebrate ability and spark conversations about inclusion, empathy and practical change.
