About this Short Film
Bayfield High School’s The Sneeze (New Zealand, 2020) looks at the small, charged moments that can shape school life when questions of health and difference are present. The film touches on themes of congenital disability, Down Syndrome and intellectual disability alongside the everyday anxieties of germs and Covid in a school setting. Quiet and observant, it invites audiences to consider how teenagers negotiate care, inclusion and boundaries under new public health pressures. Presented in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival, The Sneeze contributes to a programme that celebrates the abilities, experiences and achievements of people with disability.
