About this Short Film
Kirsty Martinsen, by the Summer Foundation, is a 2019 Australian short that examines themes of disability, inclusion and employment within the context of adult life. Rather than offering a single story, the film reflects on individual experience and the practical and emotional challenges that can come with illness, physical disability and wheelchair use. It considers the role of support, the NDIS and creative practice as paths to participation. Quiet and observant, it invites viewers to consider what independence and connection look like for different people. Presented in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival, Kirsty Martinsen contributes to our program celebrating the abilities, experiences and achievements of people with disability.
