Perception Blind Massage is a massage place concept that provides employment for the blind and visually impaired. Here the therapists get to demonstrate their unique talents for massage as they are able to fully focus on their sense of touch in a way others simply can't. Today on Million Ways to Live I experience one of these gifted therapists first hand and feel how tuned in they are to their restorative and rejuvenating massage practice. I have been blind since I was 35 years old. I am blind because I have a visual impairment. I want to help people who are sick and in pain to get better. The first time I learned how to massage was when a teacher held my hand. After initially losing her sight, Wee didn't know how to cope with the realities of her new life. Becoming a massage therapist enabled her to earn a living again, allowing her to support herself and pay for her kids' education. But over the last 10 years that Wee has been practicing, it's her clients that continue to benefit from her choice to become a therapist. If it wasn't for perception and the empowering business model they've created, I would have never experienced Wee's massage talents. But this place provides so much more than just one-off massages for its clientele. The clients here are empowered and allowed to grow. They're provided ample educational opportunities to broaden their massage skill set and expand on their craft. I love walking away from a massage feeling light and relaxed, but after my massage with Wee, I experienced something more reflective.
