About this Short Film
Derailed, directed by Rachel Handler (United States, 2025), invites viewers to reconsider how we see physical disability and mobility. Rather than telling a specific story, the film explores themes of accessibility, stigma, prejudice and the many viewpoints that shape everyday experiences for young adults who use wheelchairs or are amputees. Its images and ideas prompt questions about stereotypes, independence and what it means to be seen as an individual. Presented in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival, Derailed complements our program by highlighting voices and perspectives often left out of mainstream screens, and reminding audiences of the work still needed to make spaces truly accessible.
