Kai Meldrum - My Life (2022), by Currumbin Community Special School, welcomes audiences into the Focus on Ability programme with a thoughtful short from Australia. Hi, I'm Kai and this is my video. I live in Koolangatta on the Gold Coast. I am 14 and I have autism, but that doesn't stop me from doing things that I love. This is me and my dad renting a boat. We rent it every weekend. This is me steering the boat on the weekend. This is me walking my dog Teddy at Crumben Beach. This is me throwing the ball for him at Crumben Beach. I walk to Woolworths by myself. I get the milk like anyone else would. I buy chips when my dad is on night shift. I unpack the groceries for the guy to scan. I pay with my credit card and then I go home. I like playing online games with my friends. That's me trying to qualify a round in Fall Guys. This is me at my time zone party hanging out with my friends. I hope to get my driver's licence one day. I like going to my drum lessons every Wednesday. I like riding my electric scooter along the beach because it goes really quick. I cook with family and by myself. My favourite things to cook at home are pizza, noodles and chicken bao. My dad works in surgery and he works late. I cook pizza when my dad's at work. I am a great cook. I am Kai and I am awesome.
