Hi, my name is Belinda. I work here at Council and part of my role is to look after all of our diversity and inclusion training and that means that I get to work with a lot of different people. A few years ago someone said to me that they really like the idea of bringing in work experience students who might have a disability. I think that it just really opens people's eyes up to what someone with a disability can actually do and it really teaches them skills on how to be more inclusive and how to actually work with people who have a disability. Hello, I'm Simon. We're here with Oliver who is doing work experience from Glendale High School. Oliver's on a work experience program and at the moment he's helping us out with some fleet detailing. As you can see he's working very hard here detailing one of our electric cars. Oliver's very happy doing work experience and seems to be enjoying himself here. Yeah, what I like about it here was washing cars. I don't know that. Being in a place with a lot of people in an actual work environment is good because you're able to learn how to interact with other people. You're also like gaining a lot more teamwork because you're working with people that you don't know as well as the people that you go to school with. You have to learn how to build up a relationship in that sense and also how to work as a team with people that you might not have known for long or people that you have no idea who they are. So it's really good. One of the great things about having students with all abilities come and do work experience with us is just seeing what they can do and what they can bring to us as an organisation and also what we can do for them and help them on their pathway to a career. Hi, I'm Alex Wilson. I supervise the nursery, the Land Care Nursery, and we have Jayden who's a work experience student. He comes and helps around the nursery and in the garden and a few different jobs with the other volunteers. It's really good for us to have this opportunity to welcome people of all abilities and different ages and it just broadens our experience in general. Well, I'm Jacob Mark. I am in the records team. I'm actually the trainee for the records team and I've been training and looking after Giselle for the couple months she's been here at the moment. She's been fantastic. She's got an amazing eye for detail. She's absolutely awesome and we're all blown away the first time she left. Oh my god, oh my god, she's amazing. You know, she's smashing it. She's doing such a good job. Absolutely blown away and blowing our expectations completely out the window. It was amazing to see. Hi, my name is Belinda Bruce and I work at Glendale Technology High School in the Thrive Academy. I teach a senior class. We have seven students in our class and it is my job to help those students develop a pathway beyond school. Some of the things that our students get out of work experience are self-confidence, vocational skills are increased, social skills are increased and the students just generally very proud of themselves after they do work experience. What I love about the work experience program is it allows our students to interact with the community and the community to interact with our students and I think that that reflects a diverse society and it's a really wonderful thing.
