About this Short Film
"I'll tell you what I want" is a short film from Parkside School, New Zealand (2022) included in the Focus on Ability festival. With honesty and warmth, it explores themes of choice, inclusion and everyday life for young people with disability. The film reflects on school, friendships and the practical realities of living with cerebral palsy and other disabilities, including wheelchair use and intellectual disability. It does not ask for sympathy. Instead it offers a clear-eyed look at how young people make decisions about their lives and who they want to be. A thoughtful, grounded piece that sits comfortably within our celebration of ability and agency.
