About this Short Film
I am special (2018), by Whangarei Primary School, New Zealand. This short film is included in the Focus on Ability International Short Film Festival. It addresses themes of bullying and school life and highlights the experiences of children and teenagers with cognitive processing disabilities, Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. Made by a primary school community, the film offers a simple, honest look at belonging, respect and the challenges young people can face. It does not provide neat answers. Instead it prompts conversation among students, families and teachers about inclusion and how schools can better support diverse learners. A gentle, important contribution to our programme.

Hi everyone.... this is my son Cameron.. ..as you heard and saw in the film Cameron was bullied by more than 7 students in his school.... this was a heartbreaking time for all of the family...kust because someone is different on the outside we still hurt the same on the inside....Cameron is a special gift and we wouldn't have him any other way...well done guys and a special mention to Mr Jerez.
This is my grandson and we are so proud of what he has achieved. With the help of teachers like Issac Jerez children with challenges will go far.
